Title III Afterschool Program

Introduction:

At P.S. 54, The Detective Rafael Ramos School, our Title III program is dedicated to supporting New New Yorkers who are now part of our educational community. This program aims to assist our Multilingual Learners by providing additional academic support and resources to guarantee their academic success.

Our school's Title III program primarily focuses on enhancing the educational outcomes of our students through the following key areas:

  • English Language Acquisition. We offer targeted language instruction to help multilingual learners develop English proficiency while meeting the academic standards for their grade levels.

  • Parent and Family Engagement. Our program encourages families to get involved in their children's education, which enhances students' academic success.

  • Professional Development for Educators: We prioritize the professional development of teachers and school staff to ensure they have the necessary skills to teach English to Multilingual Learners effectively.

  • Accountability. We monitor our students' progress in English acquisition and overall academic development. P.S. 54 reports on how our Multilingual Learners advance toward language proficiency and educational standards.

  • Supplemental Services. Our team provides additional resources and services, such as tutoring and specialized instructional support, to help English Language Learners catch up academically while improving their language skills.

Objective:

To enhance English language acquisition and academic achievement for Multilingual Learners (MLLs) in grades [K–5] through culturally responsive afterschool programming that builds on students’ native language strengths, promotes bilingualism, and supports translanguaging and intercultural understanding, in alignment with Title III goals and New York State Standards.
